On the eighth day of the fourth lunar month, we celebrate the birth of Shakyamuni Buddha, who came into the world to guide all beings toward enlightenment. Inspired by the spirit of sincere devotion, we invite you to participate in this year’s lantern offering and awaken wisdom within yourself. Please complete the lantern offering application form and send it by email.

음력 4월 초파일은 석가모니 부처님께서 중생을 깨달음으로 이끌기 위해 이 세상에 오신 날입니다. 정성의 마음을 담은 등 공양의 의미를 되새기며, 올해 연등 공양을 통해 스스로의 지혜를 밝히는 인연을 맺어보시기 바랍니다. 신청은 등공양 신청서를 작성해 이메일로 보내주세요.

Ven. Woongsahn Sunim has captured the essence of mountains, paths, forests, and the natural world across Korea and the United States through his lens.
This exhibition presents his work at the E. K. gallery in Los Angeles.

Celebrating Buddha’s Birthday (B.E. 2570), a commemorative ceremony was held under the theme ‘Peace in Mind, Harmony in the World.’ The event took place on May 3, 2026, at 3:30 PM at the Dongguk University Los Angeles campus. A communal lunch offering, sponsored by Ms. Jeon Mi-suk, was served.

불기 2570년 부처님오신날을 맞아 ‘마음은 평안으로, 세상은 화합으로’라는 주제로 봉축 법회가 열렸습니다. 2026년 5월 3일 오후 3시 30분, LA 동국대학교 캠퍼스에서 진행되며, 행사 전에는 전미숙 보살님이 올리는 대중공양 점심식사를 나누었습니다.

LA Anguk Seon Center, under the Overseas Special Parish of the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism, officially completed its registration as an overseas temple on March 24, 2026. The certificate of appointment for the head monk, Ven. Woongsan, was received on behalf of the temple at the parish office. This milestone strengthens the foundation for international Buddhist outreach.

대한불교조계종 해외특별교구 소속으로 LA 안국선원(주지 웅산스님)이 2026년 3월 24일 해외사찰 등록을 완료했습니다. 주지 임명장은 해외특별교구 사무실에서 안국선원 관계자가 대리 수령하였으며, 등록 및 임명을 통해 해외 포교 기반이 더욱 강화되었습니다.

In January 2026, LA Anguk Seon Center hosted a Ganhwa Seon retreat led by Ven. Subul sunim. Participants immersed themselves in hwadu practice, learning to embrace thoughts as part of the path while gaining clarity, calm, and renewed energy.

Subul Sunim has been appointed as the Sujwa (chief meditation monk) of Beomeosa Temple. He will continue to promote Ganhwa Seon practice and contribute to the wider popularization of Korean Buddhism.

LA Buddhist University USA has announced the reopening of its fall semester following the pandemic. The program offers structured Buddhist studies and diverse cultural activities, aiming to develop practitioners and serve as a key educational hub for the local community. Classes are available both in-person and online, and are open to all.
